Maximizing the Benefits of Field Management and Tablet Computers in Construction An independent study of 15 Skanska projects

For almost a decade, Skanska, a global top 20 general contractor, has been at the forefront in exploring the use of tablet computers for construction. In the past 3 years the firm has moved from exploration to explosion, as hundreds of projects around the world are leveraging Field management software from Vela Systems (now Autodesk® BIM 360 Field) and tablet computers to help drive programs for quality, safety, commissioning, Field BIM™ and access to construction documentation. This explosion of usage is fertile ground for research: What trends can be seen across multiple projects? For example, what factors contribute to projects getting the most value from the technology and thus create the most value for the owner? This complementary webinar will feature Brian Fitch, Project Controls Director at Skanska USA Building and Michael Moran, a Masters graduate of the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Michael’s peer-reviewed research will be presented wherein he evaluated the benefits of Vela Systems field management software and tablet computers on 15 Skanska projects around the globe. Drivers of success will be examined and recommendations will be presented on the best ways to implement these technologies going forward.
